Few locomotives have reshaped Britains railfreight landscape quite like the Class 66.

Since their arrival in the late 1900's these unmistakable machines have become the backbone of modern operations, bringing reliability, efficiency and sheer pulling power to every corner of the network.   From the bold colours of EWS and its successor DB Cargo to GBRF, Colas, Fastline & DRS the Class 66 has been at the forefront - hauling everything from intermodal containers and aggregates to steel, fuel, timber and infrastructure trains.

That versatility is exactly what makes the Class 66 such an essential addition to any layout.  Whether your scene is a busy freight terminal, a windswept rural junction or a modern main line, there is always a place for a 66 at work.

Their widespread use across operators and duties means endless modelling possibilities while their enduring presence over the last 25 years cements them as a true icon of contemporary rail.

History:

Arriving in the uk aboard MV Fairload on the 23rd June 2000, this locomotive was originally numbered 66250 and was the last EWS class 66 as part of their “red revolution” which had started with 66001 just a few years earlier. As part of a restructuring, EWS offered several locomotives for sale and 66250 was acquired by GBRF in 2017 and was allocated the new number 66789. Unveiled on the 27th Feb 2018, 66789 sports a homage to the British Rail large logo blue livery to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the formation of British Railways back in 1948.
