Model Trains Direct located in Auckland is a New Zealand family owned and operated business, formed in 2025 to offer the Kiwi Model Train enthusiast a wider range of quality OO and TT Gauge model trains and accessories than was previously available. 

I have been a model Train enthusiast for over 50 years and has built many Layouts using OO/HO products.  Having seen huge changes in the hobby particularly over the last 20 years, with the advent of Fine scale production and DCC control which allows many exciting new operating features over the traditional analogue control systems.

I intend to publish some articles which will hopefully will demistify some Model railway terms, and will assist the Newcommer/Novice in their choice of Scale/Models/Themes.

 We are delighted to be able to offer the following product ranges:

 Accurascale OO gauge Locos, Carriages and Wagons. Accurascale is a young London based company offering surperbly built UK themed railway products at a competitive price. They are rapidly expanding and taking market share from the traditional UK OO suppliers. These are true models, and there are no toy trains in their range.  Accurascales philosophy is to offer "realistic models at realistic prices."  We offer many of their locos in both Standard DC format but future proofed as DCC ready which enhances your resale value, and DCC decoders fitted with Acurathrash sound .... which has to be heard to be believed!

Roco TT gauge Locos, Carriages, Wagons, Track and turnouts, and Roco HO/OO track and turnouts. Roco is one of the leading European manufacturer of Model railways. Roco/Fleishmann are based near Salzburg in Austria and they have a manufacturing plant in Slovakia. Again we offer Roco locos in the standard DC format , but DCC ready, and in DCC Fitted with sound.    Roco track systems (both the new TT and HO/OO gauges) are superior in my opinion to any of the other brands I have used extensively in my layouts in the past.

Woodlands Scenics Landscaping materials have been a favourite with Train modellers for many years. We offer their Track Ballast, Metals, Ground cover, handmade Trees and Bushes, Landscape accessories as well as their Sub Terrain System of High density Foam Risers, Incline & decline sets. The Sub Terrain system allows Interesting Layouts with different levels to be built quickly and economically without the need for complicated calculations, and no dusty mess associated with cutting traditional wood and plywood track beds.

Bridges/tunnels & buildings. We are expanding our range of accessories for OO & TT gauge railways with a number of new items becoming available over the next few months.
