History:
These Iron Ore/Stone Tippler wagons were built in 3 batches by British Rail subsidiary Redpath Dorman from 1972 for transporting Iron ore. They became synonymous with the heaviest trains on the British Railway net work. They were hauled by Class 37 before the introduction of pairs and then by the new class 56 Locos.
In the 1980's some were sold off and used for carrying stone from numerous quarries in the UK to depots in London and the home counties. They were in use right up into the 2000's when age began to catch up on them.
